Welcome to Agape MindSpace

Family caregivers of persons with mental disorders that the community has neglected.

The Problem
Many caregivers carry the burden of mental disorders without the knowledge of the condition the person they’re caring for has, and without proper equipment. They also have to live with the stigma associated with mental disorders and the lack of support from the community.

What We Do
Create awareness of caregiver burden and provide a safe place where caregivers can access practical tools and emotional support to make their caregiving journey easier.

About Ginger Kimani

Agape MindSpace Founder

With over 30+ years of experience taking care of a parent diagnosed with schizophrenia, Ginger has had to overcome many obstacles characterized by the stigma associated with mental illness in Africa.

Caregiver At a Young Age

Born in Nairobi, Kenya, she was raised by a single parent and is the firstborn in a family of three.

With an age gap of 11 and 17 years,
she was tasked with the sole responsibility of raising her siblings, even as she took care of her parent.

With no idea of what she was doing and having to bear the emotional, psychological and financial burden of caregiving, she endeavoured to equip herself with knowledge and skills that would help her successfully take care of her mentally ill parent.

Ginger has been through it all; from dealing with psychotic episodes, administering medication, accessing medical care, to wading through the murky waters of the legal system in an effort to safeguard her rights and the rights of her family.

Let’s Talk

Ginger created Agape MindSpace to share her experience, and to give practical solutions to everyday challenges that a family caregiver of a person with a mental disorder in Africa will encounter.

This is a safe place for the conversation that has been long overdue.
